The phone rings. I feel my heart skip when I recognize the number. I answer, a breathless hello. He answers with a deep, dusky, Hey, it's me, like there was a doubt in my mind who was on the other end of the line.
I'm aloof, angry. He cajoles, kids and I soften. He'll always be that one who can melt the icicles.
He says my name, softly, and the yearning begins again.
